A strategy for women’s health that expands beyond reproduction to address chronic, mental, and age-related conditions too often ignored in global health systems.
The policy challenge:
Our client, a leader in health technology development, is seeking to reform its approach to innovation in women’s health across the life course. Historically, women’s health needs beyond reproductive health have been marginalized, leading to significant gaps in addressing the full spectrum of issues such as chronic diseases, mental health, and age-related conditions. These areas have been overlooked, under-researched and under-funded, resulting in disparities in health outcomes. Tackling this challenge requires a comprehensive approach that acknowledges and addresses the diverse health needs of women across different geographies and socioeconomic contexts.
The strategic approach:
To address these gaps, we have partnered with our client to undertake a critical examination of health technologies through a lens that considers geographic, cultural, and socioeconomic factors. This approach involves jointly prioritizing key areas for investment by identifying where the most significant gaps exist and where investments can most effectively complement and enhance existing initiatives. By aligning these priorities with an in-depth understanding of the specific needs of women in different regions, we are working to develop a targeted investment strategy. This strategy will not only fill the gaps in women’s health innovation but also ensure that new investments are synergistic with ongoing efforts, driving a more holistic and effective approach to improving women’s health across the life course.
„This collaborative approach is central to our commitment to advancing women’s health.“
The intelligence:
In developing this strategy, we are undertaking consultations with a diverse group of stakeholders, including industry experts, gender equity advocates, and investors. By bringing together diverse perspectives, we are ensuring that the strategy is grounded in real-world insights and is responsive to the unique challenges faced by women in different parts of the world. This collaborative approach is central to our commitment to advancing women’s health through innovative, equitable, and context-sensitive solutions.
The SDGs:
This work aligns with SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequality). By focusing on innovation that meets the diverse health needs of women across their life course, we are contributing to a more equitable and inclusive global health landscape.
